linguistic thread - Hap - 15-01-2016 Ok, let's be honest... none of us will ever be a second Mezzofani... Anyway, let's discuss our linguistic concerns here, questions, problems, theories, philosophies... any language, any level. Just let's stay fair and refrain from asking, what you could easily check out in any little pocket dictionary.... RE: linguistic thread - Hap - 18-01-2016 no so se ho capito bene la differenza di stare e rimanere... ho tanti esempii ma non una esplicazione che mi dà un senso come si usano. può dire che più o meno stare - is a situation or condition more static, or that could last quite long, to be somewhere as usual, forever, or very long, the focus is more on the fact that nothing will or should be changed rimanere - to be somewhere for a certain timespan (and then leave), a condition or situation that obviously wouldn't stay like that forever, so the moving away from that place or condition is already implied o ho sbagliato completamente? RE: linguistic thread - Niji - 18-01-2016 it's very difficult to clear your doubts because these are verbs that are used in so many different ways. "Stare" is often a sort of "being" status. Sto bene. Sto male.  But the way you are asking about in your question is in relation to places, right? As the difference between "stare a casa" and "rimanere a casa? It's very subtle, and you probably can use either way without rising any eyebrows, but I would say that "rimanere" imply that it's not what everyone else is doing or the natural way it is, it's like you are "not going" somewhere. If you says to me "oggi sto a casa" I don't think you had other plans, I think that is your plan for today, that you want to relax or you just have something to do at home. If you tell me "oggi rimango a casa" I will think you probably had to go somewhere, like to work or out with friends, but for special reason you are not doing that, you are staying at home. If you tell me "sono stato da Marco a cena" I will think that Marco probably invited your for dinner and you went at Marco's with the intention of having dinner with him, if you tell me "sono rimasto da Marco a cena" I'll probably think that you didn't expect to stay there for dinner, you just went to pay a visit and then the visit got longer than planned and you end up having dinner with him. So you "sei rimasto" instead of going away sooner. So I would say that the difference is that "rimanere" may imply a diversion from a plan, even if it's not always true. Perhaps it's better to say that it imply an alternative, that's why you say that it's temporary, and that's mainly correct. It's very interesting because I often don't know why I use one instead of the other, so I had to think a lot about it and I'm not sure I came up with a general rule, but I hope it can shed some light on the subject, anyway RE: linguistic thread - Hap - 18-01-2016 Wow, that's a really helpful explanation! I'm just  discovering, that like most languages, I've had a look in, Italian has far more "officially existing" words to choose from, than in German. RE: linguistic thread - Seregil - 21-01-2016 Hap potresti provare a prendere un vocabolario Zanichelli, sono i migliori in assoluto.  Anche le loro grammatiche sono molto complete e ben fatte, io ne ho comprata una di recente ed è fantastica, anche se l'esposizione è un po' noiosa.  Per le letture ti suggerirei di evitare Harry Potter, i primi tre vanno bene, ma dal quarto le pagine aumentano e potrebbe diventare pesante, io ti direi di provare con Una serie di sfortunati eventi di Lemon Snickett, sono tredici volumetti molto brevi e scritti in modo estremamente semplice (essendo pensati per un pubblico di bambini/ragazzini).  Io li ho adorati, e se non dovessi trovarli in biblioteca sarei felice di prestarteli  Ely RE: linguistic thread - Hap - 21-01-2016 Grazie, Seregil. Che gentile! Ho visto la homepage di Zanichelli e in le prossime giorni vado in una libreria per vedere in "real life".  Posso quasi dire, che con Harry Potter ho imparato l'Inglese. E vero, gli ultimi libri sono lunghi e più difficile a capire. (I never would have thought then, that one day I'll be able to read something like the lifeship trilogy ...) Prossima volta in la biblioteca dei bimbi cerco le tue proposte. (è 4 volte più grande come la biblioteca per tutti età quoi in il villagio). Ho 2 grammatiche "miste" - una è il livello A1, A2 della certificazione europea, il altro è come un  dizionario, ma ho già trovato qualche errori. That must have been some jerk of a lectorate... Ho anche un libro solo sulle verbi, che è molto utile. Ma sempre voglio ricordare tutti in una volta, e non c'è possibile con un cercvello che risembla un disco memory pieno.
