Robin Hobb, ancor prima che autrice, è una lettrice entusiasta e non è raro che nelle interviste o sul suo newsgroup spenda parole di lode per alcuni dei suoi colleghi. Questo topic vuole essere un contenitore in continuo aggiornamento per i titoli da lei indicati, che potrebbero a loro volta diventare le nostre prossime letture. ^^
Cominciamo con i primi consigli:
- Blake Charlton, Spell Wright - inedito in Italia

- Lois McMaster Bujold, ciclo dei Vor e romanzi fantasy
(Oh, if you haven't tried Lois McMaster Bujold, you are in for a treat, be it her Miles books or her fantasy books)
- Lynn Flewelling, qualsiasi cosa, ma in particolare The Bone Doll’s Twin - bibliografia italiana
(She's not a new writer, but she puts out new books)
- Robin McKinley - bibliografia italiana
(Style like clear water and gripping tales. Blue Sword is classed in the YA section. Good stuff.)
- Sara Creasy, Song of Scarabaeus - in uscita all'estero il 27 aprile
(I'm really liking this. It's SF, not fantasy)
- Patrick Rothfuss, Il nome del vento
(I think you should definitely look at Patrick Rothfuss)
- Brandon Sanderson, Mistborn
(Both my daughter and I are very impressed with a writer named Brandon Sanderson and his book Mistborn)
- George R.R. Martin, Le cronache del ghiaccio e del fuoco
- Steven Brust, cominciando da The Phoenix Guards - bibliografia italiana

È di oggi un altro post sull'argomento libri.
La Hobb ha trovato molto interessante il saggio di economia "alternativa" Freakonomics di Levitt e Dubner (tradotto in Italia da Sperling & Kupfer):"I finished reading this [Freakonomics] tonight, on the treadmill. (Treadmill-ugh.)
Anyway, it was an interesting book for me in that it challenged some of the ways we think about things. I'm still not sure I agree one hundred percent with the author's conclusions, but it was interesting all the same.
Has anyone else here read this one? I think I'm behind the curve in finally picking it up. I was expecting something that was far more about tradition economics, but this was more about applying the techniques of studying economics to related issues. Such as, can your name affect how much money you make?
I recommend it."

"Also, did I mention Song of Scarabaeus here yet? I've read it as a proof. It's SF, not fantasy, with good action, science and characterization. By Sara Creasy and due to come out on April 27. I recommend this one also."
Infine ha parlato del collega Jo Walton:
"And I've just started reading a very strange book by Jo Walton. Strange and wonderful, at least so far. I don't want to say too much about it yet, but I think that it's going to get some well deserved attention."

Che io sappia lo ha nominato un paio di volte, ma senza esprimere un giudizio personale. In questi interventi lo nominava fondamentalmente perché Terry era presente in una data convention oppure perché un suo racconto rientrava in una data antologia.

Altri due post molto incoraggianti su Among Others di Jo Walton:

"I finished the new Jo Walton book. Wish I had a precise release date to share here. I'm not going to do spoilers. In my opinion, the cover letter and cover of the book gave too much away.
I think Among Others is going to be a much discussed book, especially among the SF/fantasy community. It's a 'down to the author's bones' sort of book, in my opinion.
And that's as much as I'm going to say. No Spoilers! Believe me, you'll thank me later for being so mysterious. Avoid reading blurbs on this one or early reviews. Just bite right into the book.

Dovete sapere che, quanto ero ancora una serpentella, sono caduta preda della mitica serie di Angelica di Anne Golon: è quindo qualche centinaio di anni che nutro una passione spropositata èer qualsiasi cosa riguardi l'epoca del Re Sole -a cneh se qui ne siamo alla fine.
