RE: Il nome del Vento - P. Rothfuss
Well....
"A slow regard of silent things" is certainly not a "story". It is more like....."let's play little mouse with mind reading abilities, and follow "that strange girl" around for a little while, to see, what she's doing and thinking all the time". So it certainly helps, if you liked Auri in the first place, but it's not necessary. It also helps if you have the feeling from time to time, to have been fallen down from a different planet, than the rest of the world. The title is so appropriate as any title could be. It's not a story but a slow regard. It's about Auri and her world. It is very silent. The book has not a plot, no storyline. Not the kind of conversations, interactions, action, cause and result, dramaturgy etc. you'd suppose to find in any "usual" book. Not really a "beginning" or an "end". It's kind of like a date with a closed up person, who might or might not talk to you. And if you're one of the people that this book "talks to", you might be rewarded. It's a bit insane, but not the spectacular, loud and crazy extreme -sport kind of insane (remember the title: slow and silent). Depending on the reader it can touch or trigger something in one's own soul. If you want a story, a plot, a building of tension, some results, a happy or unhappy ending, something that makes sense, a quick summer-holiday fun read, an adventure, something "solid"..... don't read it. You see, it's really easier to NOT recommend it. I loved it! Leggere nuoce alla stupiditÃ
