I finished this one earlier today. The year is young, but Kay's latest could well be the best speculative fiction read of 2016!

Come ho scritto in il segnalibro thread, ho finito "A Song for Arbonne" ,(G.G.Kay), che mi ha dato un sacco di emozioni di tutti colori, dalla goia pura all' odio profondo, avevo quasi tutti gli sentimenti possibile, e veramente forte.
Now I'm feeling similarliy overwhelmed and touched and unsettled, as I was directly after reading the "Tawny Man Trilogy" for the first time. I even cried.... a thing that I usually spare for Hobb-books....
Sometimes, there were long scenes of rememberance or second source telling in the book, which from a less gifted author might have spoiled the book for me. But not in this case. While the first time it occured I was a bit impatient and hoped, it won't go on like that, as the story proceedes, these scenes fit in so well that sometimes I even didn't realize that theres one of those again, and there is also a lot of action, first hand experiences and intelligent and witty dialogues.
La tensione si alta e alta e alta, e in mio opinione la storia si svilluppa incredibile bene, stessa cosa posso dire per gli caratteri.
E naturalmente, gli troubadour e joglars, le arpe, gli liuti.... tanto musica dentro
Ho capito che qui ho trovata la novella che ho chercato quando ho provato a leggere la Mc Killip.
Adesso devo lasciare le impressioni del "A Song for Arbonne" sedersi prima che posso tornare a un altro libro.

Sai che ricordo di averlo molto amato, ma la trama mi sfugge completamente?

The surrounding political story is connecting everything:

A Song for Arbonne [leggi]

Arbonne is a culture where woman are respected and can be rulers, troubadours enjoy a high social status and a god and a godess are worshipped equally, with different roles and traditions.
In a country in the north, they abandoned the believe of the godess, see it as blasphemic and bad sourcery, and women are widely seen to be destined servants of the males, in extreme cases as mere sexual objects without any chooice of their own.  The high priest of the male god in that country is completely obsessed in gaining political power for his family to control the throne and also to destroy the believe in the godess, the womanpower of the blasphemic south, and uses and sacrifices people like figurines on a chessboard to gain his goals.
This cannot but end in a war, which most likely will destroy weak, woman ruled Arbonne.
There are however several treaties between the 6 counries that confine to one another, so it has to be arranged cleverly by both sides to not bring too many enemies against oneself.

There are some personal conflicts developping into their own storylines and competently interwoven whith each other and into the political storyline. Most important are: the personal long year conflict between the 2 most powerful lords of Arbonne, resulting from love, unfaithfulness and jealousy, that is poisoning and weakening Arbonne from the inside. Also the inner familiar conflicts of the family of the high priest of the northeners, one of sons and the other son's wife, both trying to braek out of the grip of power of the high priest.

And some others, and also some minor ones, though they seem important enough to be necessary not to be left out, lest the novel wouldn't be as wonderful as it is. The plots one by one seem simple enough, but the way Kay weaves them through each other and has them developping, his character-designing  and his language are in my opinion a masterpiece.
